WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., Feb. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Champion Athletic Apparel announced today that Aleya Littleton of Kensington, Md., is the winner of its What's Your Everest? contest, an online challenge that encouraged entrants to declare their personal goals for the chance to receive $10,000 toward fulfillment of their aspirations. Littleton's video entry was chosen among hundreds of video and essay submissions.
Littleton, a science instructor with NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, highlighted her struggle to overcome her fear of heights during a mountaineering expedition in Moab, Utah. She plans to use her prize to participate in a Summit for Someone trip. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Big City Mountaineers, a non-profit organization working to allow kids from urban areas to take part in outdoor activities.
"The concept of 'What's Your Everest?' is really amazing," said Littleton. "The contest not only helped me in my ongoing quest to overcome my fear of heights, but it provided me with the means to help kids discover the outdoors as I have."
Littleton's entry can be viewed online at Champion Athletic Apparel's Expedition Champion Web site (http://climbeverestwithus.com/WhatsYourEverestWinner.aspx).
"We were inspired by people who participated in this program and built this online community where they shared their personal and professional goals and encouraged each other," said Claire Powell, Champion brand marketing director. "Aleya's moving video shows how she is determined to conquer her fear through her desire to encourage kids to reach their 'Everests.' By working to achieve her goal, Aleya truly embodies the hopeful message of What's Your Everest? and represents the symbolism of reaching the highest summit in the world."
