Sears is in the Army now… to sell U.S. Army-licensed apparel
Sear-iously, this major retailer will launch a line of military-styled apparel nationwide in October 2008. The U.S. Army has agreed to license its marks and insignia to Sears, with licensing fees the Army that will be used to support military programs for troops and their families. According to Advertising Age (online, www.adage.com), the collection “will be made up of authentic lifestyle reinterpretations of the fit, design and performance of regulation uniforms and military-issued gear.”
The line will cover men, women and children (which covers most of us), and will include t-shirts, hoodies, denim and outerwear. Retail prices will range from $19.99 to $119.99.

Can you say “nail in the coffin”. A mass retailer getting into the core of the army surplus and apparel industries. There’s not too much left for us. The market is saturated with the same stuff and the prices and margins continue to get battered. The industry better wake up!
I think this coud hurt all of us to a degree. We still have the market on everything else. Die hard military surplus buyer are NOT going to buy from Sears. They will be shopping at the local Army/Navy or buying online. At least it is for a good cause.
